Our Story

Long before Theth became a well-known destination for travelers, a family arrived in the remote village and visited the Berishta Family, seeking a place to eat and rest for the night. According to the Kanun of Leke Dukagjini, one of the most sacred Albanian traditions, hospitality is a duty:

“If someone comes to your home, even if they are your blood debtor, you must welcome them.”

This was the belief that guided Fatmir’s father, who warmly welcomed the travelers into his home. He offered them a warm meal, shelter, and kindness, as was the custom of the mountains. The next morning, when the family asked how much they owed, the host simply replied:

“You don’t have to pay anything. You were our guests, and we don’t take money .”

Years passed, and as Theth slowly gained recognition, Fatmir and his brother Fatjon reflected on their father’s generosity and the deep-rooted tradition of hospitality in their family. They realized that their home could be more than just a place for occasional travelers—it could be a welcoming guesthouse for all who came to explore the breathtaking beauty of Theth.

With this vision, they opened Bujtina Berishta, and later, Hotel Alpet, where they continue to welcome guests from around the world with the same warmth and hospitality that once defined their father’s actions. Today, Hotel Alpet stands as a symbol of tradition, generosity, and the timeless spirit of the Albanian Alps, ensuring that every traveler feels at home.
